ARod and Steroids
I have to admit I actually do feel sorry for ARod. This is a guy who’s been treated like shit in the press for years. He’s been derided as a choker, a fraud, a prima donna, an adulterer, as possessing an stalker-like obsession with Jeter; basically just a weird, generally douchy dude. People could not wait to gang up on this mother fucker. Now, on top of everything else, he’s a cheater? a steroid user? This would be like finding out George W. Bush was a child molester.
And the worst part is ARod has always seemed to be trying so hard to be liked, to be loved, to be respected. He wasn’t a complete dick to everyone he met like Bonds was. He wasn’t out there torturing dogs or driving drunk or fathering illegitmate children or murdering ex-wives, but people still hated this guy with a passion. They lined up to throw stones at him when his biggest crimes were wanting copious amounts of money to play baseball, making a lot of outs in five game long postseasons, and not being Jeter. Now once again, Jeter lovers can praise the Messiah, and villify the shitty asshole wannabe. Of course, every rational person knows that Jeter couldn’t shine ARod’s shoes in any facet of the game. Fuck the intangibles. Fuck the championship rings. There never should have been any rivalry between them or comparisons of them, because they’re not in the same league. It would be like trying to argue that Robert Horry had a better career than Karl Malone. And now, on top of everything else, he can now be hung by a noose as a cheater. Those that have always hated him can crow with joy like never before, and those that have always defended him will grow fewer and farther between.
