Bo’s Next Batch of Picks

05Mar09

Missouri Valley (3 points)

1st Round: #8 Drake over #9 Indiana St., #10 Missouri St. over #7 Wichita St.

2nd Round: #1 Northern Iowa over Drake, #4 Bradley over #5 So. Illinois, #3 Illinois St. over #6 Evansville, #2 Creighton over Missouri St.

Semi’s: N. Iowa over Bradley, Creighton over Illinois St.

Champion: Creighton

Thoughts: The first 3 point conference, I don’t have a lot of confidence in Creighton to pull it off, and I was tempted to go with Illinois St., but I’m sticking with the scenario bubble teams want. Chelsea Hottovy, I know you’re out there and I’m sorry for not pushing Drake through further. I just figured since it’s so close to an ivy league school that the kids will probably be studying more than worrying about basketball.

Northeast Conference (1 point)

1st Round: #1 Robert Morris over #8 St. Francis, #4 LIU over #5 Quinnipiac, #3 Sacred Heart over C. Conn. St., #7 Wagner over #2 Mount St. Mary’s

Semi’s (Re-seed): Robert Morris over Wagner, LIU over Sacred  Heart

Champion: LIU

Thoughts: N/A

America East (1 point)

1st Round: #8 Maine over #9 Hartford

2nd Round: #1 Binghamton over Maine, #5 Stony Brook over #4 New Hampshire, #3 Boston U.  over #6 UMBC, #2 Vermont over #7 Albany

Semi’s: Stony Brook over Binghamton, Vermont over BU

Champion: Vermont

Thoughts:  Just because I want Tom Brennan to stop getting a paycheck just because he coached for 20 years and lucked into two good players at one time. Even Steve Phillips deserves an analyst job more than that guy. I take that back.

CAA (2 point)

1st Round: #9 Delaware over #8 Georgia St., #5 Hofstra over #12 NC-Wilmington, #6 Drexel over #11 Towson, #10 William & Mary over #7 James Madison

2nd Round: #1 VCU over Delaware, #4 Old Dominion over Hofstra, Drexel over #3 Northeastern, #2 George Mason over William & Mary

Semi’s: VCU over Old Dominion, Drexel over George Mason

Champion: VCU

Thoughts: Just want to see Eric Maynor in the tournament again.

MAAC (2 point)

1st Round: #9 Canisius over #8 Loyola, #7 Iona over #10 Marist

2nd Round: #1 Siena over Canisius, #5 Fairfield over #4 Manhattan, #3 Rider over #6 St. Peter’s, #2 Niagara over Iona

Semi’s: Siena over Fairfield, Niagara over Rider

Champion: Siena

Thoughts: Besides the ACC, the conference most near and dear to my heart. I’d love to see the championship game of Siena and Niagara again, both teams are very capable of pulling off first round upsets. I had Niagara penciled in but switched back to the favorites just because they’re a little more talented and I think they’ll get revenge for the loss last week.

WCC (2 point)

1st Round: #5 San Diego over #8 Loyola Marymount, #7 San Francisco over #6 Pepperdine

2nd Round: San Diego over #4 Santa Clara, #3 Portland over San Fran

Semi’s: Gonzaga over San Diego, St. Mary’s over Portland

Champion: Gonzaga

Thoughts: I’d love to see Patty Mills back at 100% and have them win this tourney, but Gonzaga’s been strong of late even though I don’t like them in the actual tournament. I hope St. Mary’s still gets a bid though, Mills is one of my favorite players in the country to watch, just behind Herb Howell.

Southern ( 1 point)

1st Round: N#4 App. St over S#5 Ga. Southern, S#3 College of Charleston over N#6 NC-Greensboro, S#4 Wofford over N#5 Elon, N#3 Samford over S#6 Furman

2nd Round: S#1 Davidson over App. St., College of Charleston over N#2 W. Carolina, Wofford over N#1 Chattanooga, S#2 Citadel over Samford

Semi’s: Davidson over C of Charleston, Citadel over Wofford

Champion: Davidson

Thoughts: CBS gets their wish as Davidson has no business in the tourney if they don’t win this, but they are such a superior team to the rest of this conference. In terms of absolutely useless and irrelevant information, I’ve always been a fan of College of Charleston for some reason dating back to when they were in the tournament sometime in the late 90′s.
