That’s because JR Smith is quickly becoming my least favorite player in the NBA, and that’s saying something considering the amount of douchebags in this league. I have never seen a guy play like such a unconscionable, me first ballhog for literally every minute he’s on the court. He doesn’t even pretend to have any semblance of unselfishness. I’ve seriously never seen anything like it. It doesn’t matter if his team is up 20 or down 20 or tied up. He jacked up 12 3′s in the last 4 minutes with his team winning a meaningless game by 25 against a Kings team with nothing left to play for. In Game 1 against the Horents, Chauncey Billups was having a historically great night from 3 point range, just one shy of the all time playoff record, and you know what JR Smith does when he gets in the game? He starts jacking up 3′s like he’s goddamn Jason McElwain. And it was more of the same last night. With his team comfortably ahead in the fourth quarter, Smith came in, took several ridiculous shots way too early in the shot clock and then if they went in, acted like MJ did after the shot over Ehlo. It’s like he thinks every NBA game is the McDonald’s All American Game, and the entire point is to get yours. Look, there’s a ton of selfish guys in the NBA, and some of what I said about Smith can also be said about guys like Arenas and Iverson (one of my all time favorite players), but the thing about most of these guys is that they’re actually good and also less obvious about it. People aren’t paying to come see JR Smith, they’re not checking the calendar to see when the great JR is coming to a town nearby, and yet when he checks into the game, he proceeds to dominate the ball and take every shot like this is Rutgers and he’s Quincy Douby. Seriously, he’s the personification of everything that is wrong with the NBA. Please, Hornets, win the next 2 games because I’m really beginning to despise this entire Nugget team.
